We’ve been offering free forum and blog hosting for the past year and a half on numerous sites. In each case and for each hosting site we believed, and still do, that it was a worthwhile cause to offer this free service. While financially our business-model is a failure (we earn less than 5% each month from the advertising posted on our sites compared to the costs incurred for our server hosting, management, and programmer, not mentioning the numerous hours spent by us to manage, design, assist members, and add to the sites) we look forward to a day when online publishing platforms such as the WPMU blog system here at MountainBlogs.info, are everyman’s cost-free online publishing and collaboration platforms for family and friends, as well as for work and play.

As a public school teacher I have seen first hand the positive empowerment and engagement resulting from students’ academic use of online tools, and as an online school teacher and administrator I can mention some of the studies that show that close to 50% of U.S. public school students will attend some form of online courses by 2019. Whether we use online publishing platforms to communicate,to learn, to teach, to share advice, to shop, sell, or purchase goods, to advertise our businesses or services, or to stay in touch with family members, friends, acquaintances, or colleagues, this trend is here to stay.

Sadly, there are numerous “dubious characters” on the internet who try to disrupt sites, or make a quick buck without regard of their actions. Such individuals may promise companies instant fame on the internet by bombarding free blog and forum hosting such as ours with “keyword-rich” advertising of various business without regard of the context of the online community they’re spamming. Wikipedia has some helpful information about spam and splogs as well (click on the links to access this).

In our case, we’ve received more than 25 spam blogs on this site alone in the last 24 hours. We manually deleted the splogs and identified the members who have created them as “spammers” and took additional actions to deny them future access.

We currently have and use several powerful plugins which work as tools to combat comment spams and will discuss them further in our “Featured Plugins” posts category.

To learn more about the pervasive issue of splogs and comment spam and how blog owners are dealing with this here’s an online conversation that may shed further light into the problem: http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/12496

Rest assured that we will remain diligent in combating spam and splogs. Should you come across something that resembles a spam or splog on our site, please let us know so that we can “take a look.”
We welcome your questions on this topic as well as constructive comments bellow.

Thank you,

We also offer a highly interactive online community that allows for mountain residents and visitors to easily follow, make friends, and interact with their neighbors and other like-minded individuals. We’ve already created a variety of sections based on some of Southern California’s mountain communities and invite you to sign up and participate at UPLife.info – http://UPLife.info

Indeed there are other online communities on the internet that pride themselves in the high number of hits and visitors they have daily. UpLife.info is highly engaging and empowers its members to create, share, and reach out easily, without cost or technical knowledge. We will soon offer chatrooms and other platforms for live communication as well, so what are you waiting for?

Have you visited <a href="http://MountainPhotos.info“>http://MountainPhotos.info yet?
If you’ve ever wanted to share your mountain photos with friends, relatives, and colleagues, we are now offering a free mountain photo hosting community. Not only are photos organized by location and other categories, but one can post photos, comment on photos, rate photos, and even send e-cards of mountain photos.
Part of the reason for starting all of our sites, including Mountain Photos was that popular search engines rarely have our Southern California mountain communities represented. In my town of Twin Peaks, the first couple of searches pages of Google, for example list pages of a cheesy restaurant with the same name in Texas, as well as numerous pages of a former television show. By sharing our photos, experiences, and thoughts on our communities, we can ensure that the internet gives proper credit and importance to our communities.
Let’s share photos from our communities and show our pride of living in the mountains, away from the hustle and bustle, from crime and traffic, from smog and noise pollution. Join us in adding photos of our beautiful mountain communities today.

Mountain Blogs is a free online blog creation and hosting site that aims to unite and create a vibrant online community for mountain residents and vacationers alike. This service is more specific to personal and family blogs, where individuals and families are encouraged to create their own free sites, embed or link pictures and videos, and share their thoughts of mountain living, mountain news, mountain events, and mountain points of interest.
A quick search on the internet will show that some of our most beloved mountain communities are rarely given the importance and visibility they deserve. Thus, while we may be living in a remote area geographically, online, we’re even more remote from others connecting with us and sharing our joy of mountain living.
Imagine being able to share with the world what it means to live up high, above 5,000 ft altitude where one can enjoy four seasons, clean air, pure water, friendly neighbors, and little to no pollution.
By building a blog and sharing with the world our thoughts, convictions, and helpful information we’re forming a community, both a mountain community, but also an online community where people across the world can connect through comments, responses, and more.
We hope you find our free mountain blog creation and hosting service of good, constructive use. Thank you.
